Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar had a glorious career and he achieved everything which was there in the books but he regrets not playing with his idol Sunil Gavaskar and against West Indies great Sir Vivian Richards. Gavaskar retired from International cricket two years before Tendulkar made his debut for the national team.
On the other hand, Sachin played with Viv Richards in the County cricket but couldn’t play against the West Indies legend despite their careers overlapping by a couple of years.
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar is regarded as one of India’s best Test batsmen whereas Viv Richards was known for his audacious play. Gavaskar performed consistently in all the conditions while Richards played a key role in revolutionising cricket and took the game to new heights with his aggressive play.
“I have two regrets. The first is that I have never played with Sunil Gavaskar. Gavaskar was my batting hero when I grew up and not playing with him as part of a team remains a regret. Gavaskar retired a couple of years before I made my debut,” Tendulkar told cricket.com.
“My other regret is not having played against my childhood hero Sir Vivian Richards. I was fortunate to have played against him in county cricket, but I still rue not being able to play against him in an international match.
“Even though Sir Richards retired in 1991 and we have a couple of years overlapping in our careers, we did not get to play against each other,” Tendulkar added.
Sachin Tendulkar ticked all the right boxes in his magnificent career of 24 years. Tendulkar created and broke a plethora of records in his career. The Master Blaster is the highest run-getter in the Test as well as the ODI format and also scored 100 centuries.
The talisman also achieved his life-time goal of winning the World Cup in 2011. Tendulkar was at his best against the top teams and had a great rivalry against bowlers like Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muraltharan.
