Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar praised Ravindra Jadeja for his consistent performances in the Anderson-Tendulkar series against England. The left-hander delivered consistently while batting in the lower order and played a key role for the team.
Jadeja aggregated 516 runs in five Test matches against England at an impressive average of 86. Furthermore, the left-arm orthodox spinner scalped seven wickets in five games at an average of 72.43.
Jadeja came up with vital contributions while batting at number six and got crucial runs while batting with the tail.
“Never had a season like this. Obviously, for him, this is massive, and the chance to bat at No. 6 on many occasions has probably brought the best of him. Most of his runs have been in the second innings, and when the game was on the line,” Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports show Follow the Blues.
Jadeja scored a fighting knock of 61 runs off 181 balls in the second innings at Lord’s when India were chasing 193. India could not get over the line but Bangar praised Jadeja for showing all the patience in that knock.
“Don’t forget how he batted so maturely in the Lord’s Test match as well, with India requiring 80 to win with two wickets in hand. Compare it with the English team, with 35 to get with four wickets in hand, and how they were totally rattled. However, he showed enormous patience in his own methods and took India nearly to a famous Test win,” Bangar observed.
The former Indian batting coach said Jadeja has sealed the number six slot in Test cricket.
“I believe he has inched up a notch, and that could also mean that the No. 6 position may seem to have been sealed for India in Test matches, at least when India are playing at home,” he said.
Jadeja would look to carry the same show in the home season.
