Sanjay Manjrekar Predicts a Bright Future for Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana’s rapid ascent in Indian cricket has been nothing short of remarkable. From an impressive IPL 2024 campaign with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to cementing his place in the national team across all formats, the young pacer has now earned a spot in India’s squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

His selection over established names like Mohammed Siraj, especially in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, highlights the faith the selectors have in his wicket-taking prowess.

Manjrekar Predicts a Bright Future for Harshit Rana

Former Indian cricketer and current analyst Sanjay Manjrekar is among those who believe Rana is destined for greatness. Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar lauded the pacer’s ability to make an impact whenever he takes the field.

“It’s easy to get excited by recency. Harshit Rana, every time he has played recently for India in white-ball cricket, he has made an impression. He makes things happen. I just love his attitude, and I won’t be surprised if this guy goes on to become a big bowling star for India because he is only scratching the surface of his own game at the moment,” Manjrekar stated.

His comments underscore how Rana, despite his inexperience, has already showcased the temperament and skill required to succeed at the highest level.

Since IPL 2024, Rana’s career has been on an upward trajectory. His performances for KKR caught the national selectors’ attention, leading to his India debut across all three formats. In particular, his exploits in white-ball cricket have been noteworthy, with the pacer consistently providing crucial breakthroughs.

Though he can be expensive at times, his knack for picking wickets in high-scoring games has made him a valuable asset.

His ability was on full display during India’s three-match ODI series against England leading up to the Champions Trophy. He finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the series, claiming six scalps at an average of 24.33. This strong performance has virtually confirmed his place in India’s playing XI for the ICC event.

With Rana set to feature as India’s second seamer, the big question remains—who will partner him? Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh are in contention, with Shami likely to get the nod due to his experience. However, all eyes will be on Rana, as he gears up for one of the biggest tournaments of his young career.

His journey—from making a Test debut in Australia to representing India in the Champions Trophy within a short span—has already been eventful. This tournament will be another defining moment, providing the young pacer with a platform to further prove his mettle on the global stage.

As India prepares for the Champions Trophy 2025, Rana’s inclusion signals a bold move towards a new era in Indian fast bowling. If his recent performances are any indication, he might just be on the path to becoming the next big thing in Indian cricket.
