India’s newly appointed T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav revealed that they will adopt an aggressive approach, irrespective of the target they are chasing. India chased down the DLS target of 78 runs in just 6.3 overs to register a comprehensive win of seven wickets in the second T20I against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in a rain-curtailed match on Sunday.
Sri Lanka were 130-2 after 15 overs but India once again bounced back strongly in the death overs, conceding only 31 runs and picking seven wickets. The hosts were restricted to 161-9 after SKY decided to bowl first.
On the other hand, India lost the early wicket of Sanju Samson, who was dismissed for a golden duck. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav added 39 runs off just 19 balls.
Jaiswal scored a blistering knock of 30 off just 15 balls whereas SKY smashed 26 off just 12 balls. Hardik Pandya, who picked up two wickets, added the finishing touches with a 9-ball 22.
Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-match presentation, ‘We spoke about this before this tournament – what brand of cricket we want to play. Even if it’s a shorter target or whatever target we are chasing, this is the template which we would like to go ahead with. With the weather around, anything below 160 would have been nice.”
He added, “The games which we have seen here before have always been tricky. Rain helped us. The way the boys batted, it was wonderful. We’ll sit and decide what we want to do going forward (when asked if they’ll test their bench strength). Very happy for the boys the way they showed their skill and talent and lot of character in tough situations.”
The third and final T20I of the series will be played at the same venue on Tuesday.
