Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath believes Rohit Sharma taking over the Mumbai Indians’ captaincy from Hardik Pandya will be a huge positive. It has been reported by Sports Tak that Rohit can take back the captaincy onus from the all-rounder.

Rohit led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020, and he is the most successful IPL captain along with MS Dhoni. However, Hardik Pandya replaced him as captain ahead of the 2024 season. But MI have managed to qualify for the playoffs on a solitary occasion in the last three seasons.

There were reports that Hardik Pandya could also be released by the five-time champions.

Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel, “MI going back to Rohit for captaincy is a huge positive for him. Yet, Rohit should lay some terms and ask for two to three years of captaincy with full freedom. Rohit will definitely feel great knowing MI is coming back to him. If I were Rohit, I would definitely take up the MI captaincy role. Because he’s not going and asking them; they are asking him.”

The former CSK batter urged Mumbai Indians to back Rohit Sharma as captain for IPL 2027 as he has fantastic record as a leader.

“MI should 100% make Rohit the captain. He is a phenomenal captain, and the numbers just speak for themselves. He is one of the best captains India has ever seen. After Dhoni, I’ll rate Rohit the highest as a white-ball captain. He’s a very lovable person and sets a great culture within the team. Ask any cricketer, and they have a great opinion of Rohit.
