The T20 World Cup has started in Australia from October 16 and we have already seen some thrilling encounters in the group stage. Namibia defeated Asia Cup Champions Sri Lanka in the opening match of the event whereas West Indies got completely owned by Scotland the very next day.
Four teams from this qualifying stage will go through to the Super 12, where eight other teams — India, Australia, Pakistan, England, South Africa, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and New Zealand — are already waiting.
Meanwhile, former India and Australia players Sunil Gavaskar and Tom Moody respectively have already named their finalists for the mega event.
“India, definitely. And because I am in Australia so I am going to say Australia,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports before the warm-up match between Australia and India in Brisbane on Monday.
India delivered a superb performance in the warm-up match as they defeated Australia by six runs. KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav shone with the bat as both of them scored fifties. Mohammed Shami also bowled a thrilling final over, also his only over of the match, where he claimed three wickets for just four runs.
Virat Kohli was also brilliant with his fielding as he effected a superb run-out to dismiss Tim David and then took an excellent catch at the boundary to dismiss Pat Cummins.
Moody also delivered his verdict on the finalists but he went a bit further and named the four semifinalists.
“I am going to give you the top four. Australia, England will go through from their group. I think Pakistan and India would be leading the other group. The finalists, I have to say Australia and India.”
Australia come into this World Cup as the defending champions whereas India will definitely look to do better after their dismal group stage exit in the last edition. Rohit Sharma and his men will start their campaign against Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23.
