T20 World Cup 2021: We are the underdogs but you never know – David Wiese on playing against India

Namibia all-rounder David Wiese admitted that they are going to be the underdogs against the potent Indian team but expressed confidence that they can upset the formidable Indian team. Namibia had earlier stunned Scotland in the Super 12 stage and have impressed with their skills throughout the ongoing T20I showpiece.

In fact, Namibia also came up with a decent bowling performance against New Zealand but Glenn Phillips and James Neesham were able to take the game away from them in the death overs.

Thus, there is no doubt that the African country has grown in confidence and these performances would have certainly added a shot in their arms.

Namibia has managed to win a solitary match out of the four matches they have played and is out of contention for the semifinal stage.

David Wiese said while talking to Hindustan Times, “Playing against India is always fantastic. The support they have is amazing. Their players are the best in the world. And those are the kind of players you want to be playing against. A couple of guys can step up and impress the right people and it could work for them somewhere else. Life is all about opportunities. We are the underdogs but you never know.”

Wiese added that they have established themselves as the best associate nation. Wiese, who earlier used to play for South Africa, has been a consistent performer for Namibia in the ongoing T20 World Cup with both bat as well as the ball.

Meanwhile, Wiese has scored 201 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 50.25 and a strike rate of 131.37 of the ongoing T20I showpiece. Furthermore, the lanky all-rounder has scalped six wickets in seven matches and has bowled with an economy rate of 7.30.

Namibia will take on India in their last Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup on Monday.
