Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has predicted that KL Rahul could be the team’s run-getter in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. Rahul recently made his return after a long hiatus due to an injury in the ODI series against Zimbabwe.
The flamboyant was a bit slow to hit the straps but he has definitely found his mojo back. There were doubts about Rahul’s sedate strike rate but he was able to put that to rest in the second T20I against South Africa as he scored 57 runs from 28 balls at Guwahati.
Rahul scored a total of 108 runs in two matches against the Proteas while he scored 66 runs against Australia in three matches. Furthermore, he scored 74 runs against Western Australia in the team’s second warm-up on Thursday.
“KL Rahul could be the top run-scorer for India at the T20 World Cup 2022. He has an opportunity to bat all 20 overs, and he also has the game to bat till the end. These pitches will suit him a lot as the ball will come nicely onto the bat,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
On the other hand, India is going to miss the services of their gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as he has been ruled out with a back injury. In Bumrah’s absence, former Delhi player feels Arshdeep Singh is going to hold the key for the team.
“I believe it would be Arshdeep Singh. He is going to bowl with the new ball, and also in the death overs. It is also a possibility that he might be given the ball during the middle overs as well. He will like the pitches and the big grounds in Australia.”
India has a lot of depth in their squad and Chopra believes they will enter the tournament as one of the favorites.
“If you say that you are the best team in the world and you say that you have the best depth, or you claim that your league is the best in the world, then without a doubt, you have to be overwhelming favorites to win the T20 World Cup,” he added
India will be up against arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game of the T20 World Cup at the MCG on 23rd October.
