Bangladesh will lock horns against the Netherlands in the 27th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent on Thursday. The Tigers should have chased down 114 runs against South Africa in the last match but they could not get over the line and lost by four runs.
Umpiring howlers also led to Bangladesh’s downfall as the onfield umpire adjudged Mahmudullah LBW but the ball was missing the stumps. However, the Najmul Shanto-led team was robbed of four leg-bye runs as the ball was deemed as dead as soon as the umpire made his decision. In the end, Bangladesh lost by the same margin.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Taskin Ahmed came up with a fine bowling performance as they bagged three and two wickets respectively. But their top order could not deliver the goods and it led to their shortcoming. Towhid Hridoy has impressed with his aggressive approach and he can be given a promotion in the batting order.
On the other hand, the Dutch could only post 103 runs against South Africa in their previous game but their bowlers made the opposition work hard for their runs. The Proteas could only get over the line in the 19th over and the Netherlands also had them under the cosh at 12-4.
