Australia’s talismanic batter Steve Smith is looking forward to the five-match Test series against India, which will be played later in the year. India has beaten Australia in their last two tours of the country and Smith will be determined to deliver for the Pat Cummins-led team.
Smith has a fantastic record against India and he has always been a thorn in India’s flesh in all conditions. The right-hander has scored 2042 runs in 19 Test matches against India at an impressive average of 65.87, including nine centuries.
Smith said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, “I don’t have any plans. I’m just enjoying playing at the moment, I’m pretty relaxed and looking forward to this summer. India’s going to be a great challenge, they are a very good side, think we are probably the two best Test teams in the world going head-to-head over five Tests. I’m excited by that.”
Meanwhile, after David Warner’s retirement, Smith has been opening the innings for Australia. In four Test matches as an opener, Smith has scored 171 runs at an average of 28 and the linchpin is ready to bat anywhere for the team.
“The conversations I’ve had so far is that we’ll go to England…I’m there for the one-dayers then make a decision after that. There’s conversations happening in the background. Guys like Usman [Khawaja] has said he likes me down at No. 4, think Marnus is of a similar thought pattern. We’ll wait and see. I’m happy to bat anywhere.”
Smith is going to hold the key for Australia and he is going to be a big wicket for India in the Border-Gavaskar series.
The opening Test match of the series will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
