India’s interim coach for the ongoing Zimbabwe tour, VVS Laxman reckons Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup trophy gesture to Rahul Dravid was great. After India won the T20 World Cup, Kohli handed the silverware to head coach Rahul Dravid, who was pumped up after lifting the trophy.
Dravid is not known to show his emotions on the field and mostly keeps them to himself but he didn’t hide any when India celebrated their T20I showpiece triumph.
After taking India to glory in the World Cup, Dravid’s coaching tenure came to an end. Furthermore, Virat Kohli, who scored a crucial knock of 76 runs in the final against South Africa, also announced his retirement from T20Is.
“And then someone like Rahul, with whom I have played so much cricket, I have known him for so many years, for him to show so much emotions, first when the last ball was bowled and the conversations he was having with various team members. When he lifted the World Cup, I thought it was a great gesture by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to hand over the trophy. And the way he celebrated lifting the trophy showed how much it meant to each one of them,” VVS Laxman said in a video for the BCCI from Harare.
Laxman, who was involved in a match-winning partnership with Dravid in the historic Kolkata Test against Australia, said everyone showed their emotions after the World Cup win, from Hardik Pandya to captain Rohit Sharma.
“Everyone showed their emotions. It showed how much it meant to each and every player of that squad. It’s not only the playing XI. Even the support staff and the coaching staff, the emotions were high. You saw Hardik Pandya break down and show his emotions after bowling the last over. We saw Rohit Sharma on the ground,” Laxman added.
India was able to come out victorious and a lot of credit also goes to the support staff for helping the team get over the line.
