“When you get three low scores, it doesn’t mean he is not batting well” – Sunil Gavaskar backs Virat Kohli to bounce back

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has put his weight behind Virat Kohli to get back amongst the runs in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Kohli has managed only five runs in the first three matches of the tournament, returning with scores of 1, 4, and 0.

However, Gavaskar said it doesn’t mean Kohli is not batting well if he has got three low scores. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was once again at his absolute best for RCB, scoring 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69 in IPL 2024 and thus he is definitely not out of form.

“When you get three low scores, it doesn’t mean he is not batting well. Sometimes you get good deliveries. Any other day, the ball would’ve gone wide or over the slip for a boundary, today it didn’t. So, there’s nothing to worry about. We have to show faith in him. Much believe that he is going to come good, sooner rather than later,” said Gavaskar while talking to Star Sports.

The Little Master said that Kohli has performed consistently over the years for the national team in all three formats of the game. Kohli has scored 4042 runs in 120 T20I matches at an average of 49.90 and a strike rate of 137.90.

“The biggest motivation for any players is to win matches, especially when you are playing for your country. He has done so well for India over the years and won so many games. I think he recognises that. We are in the early phases of the tournament. There’s Super 8s, semi-finals, and hopefully the final. All he needs to do is show patience and faith in himself, which i think he has plenty,” said Gavaskar in the same discussion.

India will next take on Canada at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday.
