WI vs IND 2022: The brand of cricket which we are currently playing, there will be failures at times – Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has admitted that they are bound to fail at times with the new brand of cricket they have adopted. India has adopted an aggressive approach in the T20I format, which has been praised by a lot of cricket experts.

In fact, it was earlier noticed that India was playing with a sedate approach in the shortest version of the game and it wasn’t reaping the rewards in major tournaments. All the Indian batters are now trying to hit the ground running and they have been given the license by the team management to play aggressively from the get-go.

Rohit Sharma said that people outside should maintain calm as they know what they are doing. The Indian skipper feels they will learn along the way with this revamped approach but at the same time, they will also get better.

Rohit Sharma told journalist Vimal Kumar: “That is why I repeat, the people outside the scene should keep calm and maintain silence. The brand of cricket which we are currently playing, there will be failures at times, the results may not go in favour, but that is completely fine, no problem with it, because we are trying to learn something with it.”

“We are trying to do something different, so there may be instances where we make mistakes, but it does not mean that the players or the team are bad.”

Meanwhile, earlier it was noticed that India was not able to make the most of the PowerPlay overs in T20I cricket. India scored with an average of 35.5 with the loss of 2.2 average wickets in the previous edition of the World Cup. However, they are now trying their best to turn the tables.

But Rohit disagreed with the fact that they were playing conservative cricket in the World Cup.

Sharma said: “We have not won any World Cups, but that does not mean we have been performing poorly in the last few years. I do not agree that we were playing conservative cricket. You lose a couple of matches in the World Cup and suddenly there is talk of the team trying something else.

“If you look at the overall games that we have played, leading into the WC, we have won around 80 percent of our games.”

Rohit added that they are trying to fill some spots in the team before the T20 World Cup.

“You need to change with time, we are trying to change as well, so the people outside also need to change their thinking. We still have to fill some spots in the team before the T20 World Cup, we also know what needs to be done to fill those spots. So, we are trying, with all these matches that are being played to address those things.”

India will take on West Indies in the first T20I on Friday.
