WI vs IND 2022: The way the youngsters are being backed is nice – Arshdeep Singh credits Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma

India’s rising star Arshdeep Singh has given credit to head coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma for giving a clarity of role to the youngsters. Singh said the way the youngsters are being backed is really nice. As India has been resting some of their main players in the recent past, they have given ample opportunities to the young talent, which is helping them make a potent bench strength.

The left-arm pacer is one of the few who has been given an opportunity and he has been able to grab it with both hands. The 23-year-old scalped seven wickets in five matches against the West Indies and he was awarded the Player of the Series. Furthermore, he bowled with an impressive economy rate of 6.58 to keep the Windies batters at bay.

Singh has been performing consistently since he made his debut against England and many cricket experts reckon he should be on the flight to Australia for the T20 World Cup. The Punjab fast bowler has been nailing his yorkers in the death overs and he is also bowling accurately in the PowerPlay overs.

Singh’s best bowling performance in the series came in the fourth T20I when he returned with his figures of 3-12 in 3.1 overs. Meanwhile, India won the fifth game of the series by a gargantuan margin of 88 runs to take the series by 4-1.

Arshdeep Singh said in the post-match presentation of the fifth T20I, “Feels really good. As Rahul (Dravid) Sir says, we are a process-based team. We are just looking to do the process properly, not thinking too much about the results and that’s what is helping me in my bowling. It’s about being adaptable (as a bowler) and a lot of credit goes to the team management for giving me clarity. The way the youngsters are being backed is nice, the feel of the dressing room is really good. Helps as a youngster to come in and do whatever you do in your IPL teams/State teams.”

Arshdeep Singh has ticked the right boxes and he has definitely made a case for himself for the T20 World Cup squad. The left-arm pacer will be next seen in action in the three-match series against Zimbabwe.

The first ODI between India and Zimbabwe will take place on 18th August at the Harare Sports Club.
