Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has put his weight behind India to win the ongoing World Cup 2023. Azharduddin, who was known for his flamboyant flick shots, feels the Rohit Sharma-led has a good chance to win the title.
India hasn’t been able to go all the way in any of the major ICC events in the last decade. In fact, Team India had last won a big title back in 2013 when they lifted the Champions Trophy after beating England in the final.
India has been consistently qualifying for the knockout stages of big events since then but they have not been able to play at their best level in crunch situations.
Meanwhile, India has got off to a promising start in the ongoing ODI showpiece, winning all of their three matches. The Rohit Sharma-led team won their opening clash against Australia by six wickets and then thumped Afghanistan by eight wickets.
Team India then registered another convincing win of seven wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan to continue the winning impetus. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has led from the front as he has amassed 217 runs in three matches at an impressive average of 72.33 and a blistering strike rate of 141.83 in the ongoing tournament.
“I always wish them the very best. I expect them to win the World Cup. We have a very good chance. We have a very good team & captain who is leading the side and hopefully, we should win,” said Azharuddin to ANI.
India will next take on Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Thursday.
