World Cup 2023: The bowlers have challenged me during DRS calls, but they don’t give me enough credit – KL Rahul

India’s wicket-keeper bat KL Rahul feels he doesn’t get enough credit for doing a fine job behind the stumps. Rahul has been spot-on in giving skipper Rohit Sharma the right advice while going for the reviews. The right-hander has also done a magnificent job behind the stumps while keeping to both fast bowlers as well as the spinners.

After going through a couple of quiet last couple of matches, Rahul roared in his home ground at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru as he scored the fastest World Cup century for India against the Netherlands, completing his hundred off just 62 balls.

The flamboyant batter scored his second World Cup century as he scored a fine knock of 102 runs off just 64 balls with the help of 11 fours and four sixes and thus played a key role in helping India post 410 runs on the board, their second-highest total in World Cup history and their fourth highest overall.

Earlier in the tournament, Rahul scored a crucial knock of 97 runs in the opening match against Australia and added an important alliance with Virat Kohli after India lost three top-order wickets.

KL Rahul said while talking to the host broadcaster in the mid-innings break, “Not gotten a lot of time (in the middle) in the last two games, so it was nice to get some time today. Batting at 5, it’s important to get that confidence, it was a good knock. Getting that confidence to hit sixes towards the end was important. It’s not rocket science, got to go hard in the last 10 overs. Tried to get as many runs as possible, that was the plan, the ball gets softer, so hitting sixes at the back end becomes difficult. It’s just not this game, everyone has a clear game plan, we have been executing it (our plans) pretty well.”

He added, “Need to win this game and look forward to the semis. It (keeping) gets difficult sometimes, but I enjoy being involved in the game, the bowlers have challenged me during DRS calls, but they don’t give me enough credit.”

Rahul would want to continue the good form in the all-important semifinal against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Wednesday.
