WTC final will be a test of Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson’s captaincy – Mike Hesson

Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson believes the WTC final will be a test of Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson’s captaincy. Both Kohli and Williamson have led from the front and the results have been palpable. Both the skippers have got the best out of their teams and they have done a fine job.

Meanwhile, India had won 12 matches out of the 17 they played in the World Test Championship cycle 2019-21 and they finished at the top of the points table with a win percentage of 72.2. New Zealand, on the other hand, won seven matches in the WTC cycle and finished at the second place in the table with a win percentage of 70.

Williamson is cool as ice whereas Kohli is hot like fire. The Kiwis skipper is known for his calm approach whereas Kohli is known to take the bull by its horns.

“Both are very good leaders and yes, both are different in their style of captaincy. Kane is more of a slow-burn in the sense that he likes to put pressure over a period of time. Virat, on the other hand, is constantly looking for ways to put his side in the driver’s seat. The WTC final will be a test of captaincy for both Kane and Virat. As the wicket changes from day to day, it will be interesting to see how both Kane and Virat make those little tweaks in their strategies to stay ahead,” said Mike Hesson while talking to Times of India.

Meanwhile, Hesson added that it will be interesting to note how the Indian top order will face New Zealand fast bowlers as there will be help for the pacers in English conditions.

“I am keen to see how India’s top-order fares against the swinging ball. The ball does a bit in Southampton and as the cross breeze comes into play, it can be a challenge for the batsmen. How the Indian top-order plays the New Zealand pacers could decide the outcome,” Hesson added.

On the other hand, both Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson will hold a key role for their teams not only as captains but also as batsmen in the WTC final. The WTC final will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18.
