India’s talented batter Yashasvi Jaiswal said the presence of veteran batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma helps the young players in the team. Kohli and Rohit have all the experience under their belt and they were seen encouraging the young players in the recent series against South Africa.
While Kohli stitched a fine alliance of 195 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad in the second ODI at Raipur, Rohit added 155 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the deciding game at Vizag on Saturday. Subsequently, Kohli added 116 runs with Jaiswal for the second wicket.
Furthermore, Kohli and Rohit were seen helping stand-in captain KL Rahul in the field settings and bowling changes.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored his maiden ODI century at Vizag, said on Agenda AajTak 2025, “Absolutely, if you ask me, their presence helps us young players a lot. The way they carry themselves, the way they discuss the game, and the way they have played cricket through the years, they have done so well for India. Watching them gives us inspiration, because they have performed at such intensity, at this level, under so much pressure, for so many years.”
“Seeing them on the field or talking to them is really enjoyable. They share so much experience and explain things to us like younger brothers. They want us to avoid the mistakes they made and keep learning and developing as cricketers and as human beings. It feels really good,” he added.
Jaiswal said there is a lot of love when Rohit Sharma scolds him. Rohit was seen guiding Jaiswal during his fine knock in the third ODI.
“And when they are not around, of course we all miss them. Their presence helps us a lot. It feels more fun and more relaxed when they are there. Bhaiya (Rohit Sharma) loves us just as much. Even in his scolding, there is love. If he is not scolding us, it almost feels like something is wrong or maybe he did not like something. When he scolds us, even that feels good because we know he is doing it for our own good.”
Rohit and Virat will be next seen in action in the ODI series against New Zealand.
