5 Players with most hat-tricks in ISL history

The Indian Super League (ISL) has been witness to some breathtaking hat-tricks ever since its inception in 2014. There have been as many as 25 instances of hat-tricks in the ISL since the inaugural edition and here, we’ll take a look at five players with the most number of hat-tricks in the history of the tournament.

Iain Hume

The Canadian striker has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in ISL history. He has scored the most number of hat-tricks in the history of the league too. Hume has three hat-tricks to his name in the ISL. Two of those came in the 2015 season with Atletico de Kolkata and one came in the 2018-19 season when he represented the Kerala Blasters. The teams who were at the receiving ends of these assaults were Mumbai City FC, FC Pune City and Delhi Dynamos.

John Stiven Mendoza Valencia

The Columbian striker had turned into a fan favourite during the 2015 season while playing for Chennaiyin FC. Mendoza achieved the feat twice during the same season. His first hat-trick was against FC Goa which resulted in a 4-0 victory for the Blues. The second one was against Kerala Blasters and it was another big victory for Chennaiyin FC by a 4-1 margin. Mendoza racked up a total of 13 goals and three assists for Chennaiyin FC in that title winning season.

Dudu Omagbemi

He also achieved the feat twice in the ISL. Dudu’s first hat-trick came while donning the FC Goa jersey in 2015 and it resulted in a huge 7-0 victory over Mumbai City FC for the Gaurs. His second hat-trick came in the following season while playing for Chennaiyin FC and it was NorthEast United FC who turned out to be the victims of Dudu’s onslaught. The Nigerian played a total of 32 matches in the ISL and scored 12 goals along with two assists.

Sunil Chhetri

The Indian football team striker is one of the three Indian players to have bagged a hat-trick in ISL history. Chhetri also has two hat-tricks to his name in this tournament. The first one came when he played for Mumbai City in 2015. NorthEast United lost the match by a 5-1 margin as a result of Chhetri’s brilliance. The second one was for Bengaluru FC in the 2018/19 season and they were victorious by a 3-1 margin against FC Pune City.

Ferran Corominas

The highest goal scorer of all time in the ISL has two hat-tricks to his name as well. Corominas scored both of his hat-tricks in his debut ISL season in 2017-18. The first one helped FC Goa to earn a close win by a 4-3 margin against Bengaluru FC and the second one resulted in a clinical 5-2 victory over Kerala Blasters. Corominas has been a beast in the history of this League with 47 goals and 16 assists to his name in just 58 games.
