Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Juan Ferrando was delighted after their convincing win of 4-0 against Odisha FC at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar on Tuesday. Sahal Abdul Samad, Liston Colaco scored one goal each for the Mariners whereas Dimitri Petratos scored a brace for the team in their comprehensive win.
Just before half-time, Odisha FC was reduced to 10-man after Mourtada Fall received a red card in the 42nd minute. Subsequently, the visitors were able to capitalize in the second half as Sahal Abdul Samad found the back of the net in the 46th minute. Petratos then doubled the team’s lead in the 67th minute while Colaco scored in the 79th minute.
The Australian once again scored in the 82nd minute to put the game to bed and gave a 4-0 lead to his team.
Ferrando said it was a clear red card just before half-time, “The red card was pretty clear. The team was good, so we found the spaces in the second half, same as the first half. But, obviously to score is more important. I think it was not because Mourtada was not on the field.”
The Spaniard also showered praise on Odisha FC and said the Kalinga Warriors have a potent team.
“The opponent, I think they are the top three in the Indian League. Their players, coaches, and management, this team has good talents this season. Their team is incredible, they have very good players.” he replied when asked about how he would rate his opponent.
Speaking on the convincing scoreline, Ferrando said, “The scoreline doesn’t matter. We are happy. This is a cool down. Amazing performance. But, tomorrow’s a new day and we need to prepare for it.”
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will begin their ISL campaign against new entrant Punjab FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata on Saturday.
