AIFF Announces India Women’s Squad for Uzbekistan Friendlies

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has revealed the 23-member squad for the India senior women’s team set to face Uzbekistan in two international friendlies. The matches, scheduled for May 31 and June 4, will be held in Tashkent.

The squad selection, overseen by head coach Langam Chaoba Devi, emerged from an initial pool of 30 probables, reflecting a rigorous selection process aimed at fielding the best team for the upcoming challenges. The Blue Tigresses have been undergoing an intensive training camp in Hyderabad, honing their skills and strategies before their departure to the Uzbek capital on Wednesday.

“We’ve put together a squad that balances experience and youth, and I’m confident that the team will put on a strong performance in Tashkent,” said head coach Langam Chaoba Devi.

The selected squad features a blend of seasoned players and promising new talents, indicating a strategic approach to both immediate success and long-term development. The goalkeeping responsibilities will be shared by Shreya Hooda, Maibam Linthoingambi Devi, and Moirangthem Monalisha Devi, all of whom have shown exceptional skill and composure in previous fixtures.

Defensive duties will be handled by a robust lineup including Loitongbam Ashalata Devi, Sanju, Hemam Shilky Devi, Juli Kishan, Astam Oraon, Aruna Bag, Sorokhaibam Ranjana Chanu, and Wangkhem Linthoingambi Devi. This solid backline is expected to provide a sturdy defense against the Uzbek attackers.

In the midfield, Karthika Angamuthu, Kaviya, Naorem Priyangka Devi, Neha, Sandhiya Ranganathan, Sangita Basfore, Soumya Guguloth, and Anju Tamang will orchestrate the play, looking to control the game’s tempo and create scoring opportunities. Their versatility and endurance will be crucial in both defending and initiating attacks.

The forward line, comprising Kajol D’Souza, Karishma Shirvoikar, Pyari Xaxa, and Serto Lynda Kom, will be tasked with penetrating the Uzbek defense and converting chances into goals. This attacking quartet is known for their agility, speed, and goal-scoring prowess, making them a significant threat to the opposition.

The Blue Tigresses are aiming to build on their recent performance at the Turkish Women’s Cup earlier this year, where they finished as runners-up behind Kosovo. The tournament saw India put up commendable performances against teams like Estonia and Hong Kong, showcasing their potential and resilience on the international stage.

The upcoming friendlies against Uzbekistan are seen as a crucial part of the team’s preparation for future international competitions. The matches will not only provide valuable game time but also help the players adapt to different playing conditions and styles, which is vital for their development and success in more significant tournaments.

As the team gears up for these important fixtures, the entire nation stands behind them, hopeful for a strong performance that will boost their confidence and enhance their reputation in international women’s football.
