New Indian Super League side East Bengal have released six players from its squad ahead of the 2020-2021 season.
The players are Cavin Lobo, Keegan Pereira, Brandon Vanlalremdika, Girik Khosla and Rino Anto. The affected players have valid contracts with the Red and Golds but they won’t take part in the pre-season.
According to the club, the players are not a part of the plans of the newly appointed head coach, Robbie Fowler.
The former I-League campaigners have solidified their team with new additions even before the confirmation of their participation in the Indian Super League for the 2020-21 season by the Football Sports Development Limited.
Shree Cement Limited are the club’s new investors since Quess Corp withdrew from the role earlier in the year.
The change in government has resulted in a change in the assemblage of players to some extent as it is said that the new management is not impressed by the quality of some of the players.
Reports also say that Fowler demanded to see the clips of Indian players in the team in order to assess the level of their quality.
Already, some players have jumped ship with Pintu Mahato joining Sudeva FC a team that will be participating in the I-League for the first time in their history while Rino Anto has joined Gokulam Kerala on loan.
Already, some foreigners have been identified to join the team with Brisbane Roar defender Scott Neville and striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway also set to join up with the squad.
Scott Neville particularly is familiar with the newly appointed manager who was with the A-League side in Australia last season.
The Indian Super League will start in November in Goa where most of the teams have started their pre-season trainings. Matches will be played behind closed doors to curb the further spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
