Former Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC have roped in Indian international forward Farukh Choudhury ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 season. The club announced his arrival on their social media platforms on Tuesday.
Farukh brings in a lot of experience despite being only 26, the forward has won the ISL League Winner’s Shield and the ISL trophy with Mumbai City in 2021. However, the longest stint in his career was his stay at Jamshedpur FC where he spent five seasons. Therefore his experience of playing for different teams will surely help the Marina Machans as they aim to regain their lost glory.
While Farukh is a very dynamic forward, who has great dribbling and ability, he is extremely versatile as well as he can play in multiple positions. However, his primary concern in recent years is his persistent injury problems. These injuries have hindered his progress as a forward.
Farukh was part of India’s 2021 SAFF Championship winning team and was also associated with the Indian team during the 2018 edition when they finished runners up in the SAFF Championship. Overall, Farukh has featured 14 times for the Indian football team.
The 26-year-old was delighted to join Chennaiyin and is eager to give his all for the badge. “I am absolutely delighted to be a part of Chennaiyin FC, a club with one of the most passionate fanbases. I am wholeheartedly committed to giving my all to help the club scale new heights and I am confident that our collective effort will yield outstanding results,” he stated after putting pen to paper.
The forward’s only international goal for India came against Nepal in a friendly in 2021. He will hope that his upcoming season’s performances for Chennaiyin FC helps him regain his place in the Indian national team.
Interestingly, Farukh made his debut in the ISL at the age of 20 with Kerala Blasters in 2016. He has played 76 matches so far in this competition and has netted thrice and provided six assists.
