ATK Mohun Bagan could only get a point out of their 2-2 draw against Hyderabad FC in their latest Indian Super League clash. The Mariners were almost on the cusp of victory when Javi Siverio scored the last gasp equaliser for the Nizams handing them at least one point from this clash.
It was David Williams’ record breaking start that handed ATK Mohun Bagan a very early lead. However, a mistake from Amrinder Singh allowed Bartholomew Ogbeche to bring Hyderabad FC back in the game. later A deflection from Asish Rai from a Joni Kauko header crept in as the Mariners regained the lead. But Siverio somehow pulled it back again with a great header past Amrinder.
ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando was visibly disappointed after dropping two crucial points. But he was very concerned about Carl McHugh and his injury as the Irishman was taken to the hospital after an injury to his neck. “I’m very disappointed, but I’m more focused on the injuries of Deepak Tangri and Carl McHugh, Ferrando began at the post-match press conference. “That’s most important for me now. Sometimes, it takes one person to protect the defenders.”
Ferrando highlighted how working with Roy Krishna and David Williams in tandem has been a very joyous scenario for him till now. He feels that having to drop Krishna to play Williams does not make the former upset as he understands his role in the team. Ferrando also highlighted how in this match they had a plan with Williams so the Australian started and almost handed the Mariners another win.
“We have a plan. Williams worked so hard. But, being dropped is not a problem for Roy because I have utmost respect for him. I’m very happy for him, he’s a respectful player. Today, we had a plan with Willy and I think at the end of the game that plan worked well.”
Amrinder Singh has had a tough time justifying the massive transfer fee that ATK Mohun Bagan paid to bring him in. He came up with another blunder today. But instead of getting mad at him, Ferrando feels that people should support him during his bad days as better days will come back soon.
“It’s necessary when there are problems to support him, to give him closure and to help him improve in the details. The solution is to help him every day.”
Lastly, when questioned on Sandesh Jhingan’s return, Juan Ferrando remained tight lipped.
