Hero ISL 2022-23: The journey has been amazing: Anirudh Thapa on his stint with Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC midfielder Anirudh Thapa made his Hero ISL debut for the club in 2016 and since then he has grown as a player. Thapa has risen through the ranks at Marina Machans and has played a key role in the success of the team over the years.

In fact, Thapa has remained faithful to Chennaiyin FC and he is one of the few players who has had such a long stint with the club.

Thapa has scored six goals for Chennaiyin FC in the Hero ISL and he has also provided eight assists for the club. Thapa has the experience of playing 98 matches for Marina Machans in the ISL and he has been an integral part of the team in the last six seasons.

Thapa said it has been an amazing journey for him at Chennaiyin FC and football means everything to him.

“I have been playing for Chennaiyin FC since 2016 as a centre midfielder and the journey has been amazing,” Thapa said while speaking to indiansuperleague.com.

“Football, I think for me, is everything. My life, my career because football is what I breathe now. When I get it’s football, I sleep with football,” Thapa added.

Former player and now commentator Darren Caldeira showered praise on Thapa, stating he is a massive player for his club.

“I think he’s a massive player, a huge player for Chennaiyin FC. Just closely watch Anirudh Thapa on the pitch, he’s constantly talking to the players and making sure everything is going according to what the coach wants. So, I think he’s a big, big player for Chennaiyin FC,” stated former player and commentator Darren Caldeira.

Thomas Brdaric, the current head coach of Chennaiyin FC, revealed he loves Thapa’s style of play and added that he is always looking to improve his game in the training sessions.

“I love his style. He should also try to improve every day and in each game, how he can be the best player. He’s a special player with extraordinary abilities,” Chennaiyin FC head coach Thomas Brdaric expressed.

Chennaiyin FC will next take on Odisha FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Thursday.
