Mumbai City FC looked like the better side on the field right from the onset of their game against Jamshedpur FC on Monday but they still had to settle for a 1-1 draw, despite the fact that Jamshedpur were reduced to a 10-man side during the course of the match.
The islanders kept making runs into the final third but poor finishing didn’t help their cause. They failed to convert their chances as Jamshedpur somehow kept escaping with their share of luck. They did make some really good saves as well, though.
Mumbai City head coach also appreciated Jamshedpur FC for their efforts and acknowledged that they came up against a really strong side today.
“They played really well defensively. We create our chances but we couldn’t score. Sometimes this happens. We need to improve and we need to manage the situation and the game better. We have our chances,” Sergio Lobera said after the game.
Jamshedpur, though, were reduced to 10 men as Aitor Monroy was sent off after a rash challenge on Rowlin Borges. Mumbai City had the edge after that send off but they failed to take advantage of the situation and that’s why Lobera believes they dropped two points.
“I feel we lost two points. Obviously, in a different situation, you feel a point is enough but today, I feel we lost two points.”
It was Bartholomew Ogbeche who scored Mumbai’s only goal today, thus taking his season tally to two goals. Adam Le Fondre has scored the most number of goals (4) for Mumbai City this season, whereas Hernan Santana has scored two as well. Hugo Boumous has flourished in the playmaker’s role once again as the Frenchman already has four assists to his name in five games.
Mumbai City, however, are still at the top of the ISL table with 13 points to their name from just six games. NorthEast United and ATK Mohun Bagan are the closest to them at second and third respectively with 10 points to each of their names. Lobera and his men take on Hyderabad FC next on December 20.
