Chennaiyin FC came up with a brilliant performance to win by 2-1 against a potent FC Goa side in the 33rd match of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League at Fatorda Stadium on Saturday. Rafael Crivellaro scored the opening goal in the fifth minute as he scored from the corner position to score an amazing goal.
However, FC Goa made a roaring comeback just after three minutes as Ortiz equalized for the team after a brilliant set of play. But the Marine Machans took the decisive lead when Rahim Ali scored for them in the 54th minute. In fact, Chennaiyin FC created a plethora of chances but they could only score two goals.
The team’s head coach Csaba Laszlo was delighted with the performance of his team and stated the team got the much needed three points it deserved.
“We have to be focused [while finishing] if we create so many chances, but it is not because of a lack of confidence. Chhangte had three fantastic chances, even Rafael Crivellaro had a chance to score as well but at the end of the day we got very important three points for us,” said Laszlo.
“A win is always very satisfying. I am proud of the boys and we deserved to win this game. Even if we win every game 2-1, I am happy because we have the three points,” added the 56-year-old.
Not only Chennaiyin FC were brilliant with their offense but they also did a fine job with their defense to keep FC Goa strikers in check.
“My plan was to stop Goa because they can play good offensive football. They have a lot of ball possession and our tactics was to stay compact and prevent any spaces between our players. The team and the boys have done a good job,” said Laszlo.
This was Chennaiyin FC’s second win of the season out of the six matches they have played and they are currently at the eight place. The Marine Machans would aim to continue the momentum.
Chennaiyin FC will next play against SC East Bengal at Tilak Maidan Stadium on December 26.
