ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando was happy with the character of his team but not with the footballing details after they won by 2-0 against FC Goa in the 92nd match of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim on Tuesday.
The Mariners were able to bag three crucial points after Manvir Singh scored a brace for his team. Singh found the back of the net in the third minute of the game and then doubled his team’s lead in the 46th minute of the game.
In fact, ATK Mohun Bagan only had 37% of the possession but more importantly, they were able to score two goals after taking six shots on target.
Juan Ferrando said in the post-match press conference, “No, of course, I’m not thinking about FC Goa. I’m thinking about my team. We had more opportunities I think, but to be honest in the build-up, in the timing of press, today was not good. This is the truth. I understand the players are very tired. Today was a difficult game for them because after 45 hours to play it’s very difficult. They had personality and I’m very happy with the character of the team but I am upset about some details in the football”.
After this win, the Mariners have taken the second position in the points table and have 29 points under their belt, same as Hyderabad FC, who are at the top of the standings. However, ATK Mohun Bagan has played a match less and they will have a chance to climb to the summit of the table. The Spaniard is now thinking about the next game.
He added, “Yes, but now I’m thinking about the next game. It’s very difficult in every game for me because every opponent has good squads and the second detail is the situation. After three days, it’s very difficult to play. Our focus is thinking about Kerala now and not thinking about where we are on the table because maybe after two-three days you are in the third position or you’re in the fourth position and so, I think it’s necessary to put focus on the next game”.
Ferrando is happy with the performance of his team but feels his players still need to improve a lot in footballing details.
He concluded, “At the moment I think I’m happy but they need to improve a lot. Maybe the Indian people are happy with their performance but they need to improve more because in the case of Liston Colaco, he’s very young he needs to learn about a lot of things in football”.
ATK Mohun Bagan will next face Kerala Blasters on Saturday at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.
