ISL 2022-23: It’s going to be difficult to qualify for the playoffs: Jamshedpur FC’s Aidy Boothroyd

Jamshedpur FC’s head coach Aidy Boothroyd has admitted that it will be difficult for his team to qualify for the playoffs of the ongoing edition of the Hero Indian Super League 2022-23. The Red Miners suffered their ninth loss of the season against Kerala Blasters as they lost 3-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi on Tuesday.

The previous season’s League Shield Winners have managed a solitary win out of their 12 matches and they are currently struggling in 10th position in the standings. As per the new rules, the top sixes teams at the end of the league stage will qualify for the playoff stages but chances of Jamshedpur FC making the cut are minuscule.

Meanwhile, Apostolos Giannou, Dimitrios Diamantakos, and Adrian Luna scored for the Tuskers whereas Daniel Chukwu had equalized in the first half but his efforts went in vain after Diamantakos and Luna found the back of the net.

“First of all, I want to give respect to the opponent, who is a very good team. I thought we created chances, and that was the key, we picked the team with players that were available, which gave us the best chance of producing a result. It is frustrating and disappointing, but it was a good performance overall where we were not able to produce a result,” the head coach Aidy Boothroyd said in the post-match press conference.

The Englishman feels they need to be more aggressive and a couple of new signings can get them into a good position for the rest of the season.

“There are a variety of ways we can get closer to the goal, so either we have to play with aggressive players or with players like Ritwik Das, who came on and did well. We have to make sure that the key for us is to get the right players in the right zone, so a couple of signings this week can make us a stronger team for the next game,” he stated.

Jamshedpur FC will need to turn the corner in the upcoming matches. They will next take on Chennaiyin FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on Saturday.
