Jamshedpur FC has acquired the services of midfielder Germanpreet Singh ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the club announced on social media handles on Monday. The 26-year-old midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the club, which will keep him on the team till the end of the 2024 season.
Meanwhile, Germanpreet Singh has the experience of playing for five seasons for Chennaiyin FC. During his stint with Marina Machans, he played 62 matches in which he scored one goal and provided three assists.
Singh was also part of Chennaiyin FC’s winning squad in the 2017-18 season. Before playing for Chennaiyin FC, the midfielder plied his trade for Minerva Punjab FC.
Germanpreet said, “I wanted to take on a new challenge after playing with Chennaiyin FC for 5 years. When Jamshedpur came calling it was an obvious choice. I play to win and Jamshedpur is a club with huge ambitions having proved so in the way it won the League Winners Shield. I am excited to be playing at the Furnace representing the vibrant Red Miners. It’s an added responsibility to defend and add more to the club’s achievements and I look forward to working hard in training and games to achieve the same.”
“Germanpreet is an exciting player who fits our playing style. He is young, skill full and has a strong physical presence which is an added asset to our midfield. He is a proven Champion in the ISL and brings that winning mentality for himself and the team,” said Aidy Boothroyd.
Germanpreet Singh will join the squad in mid-August for the preseason and he will don jersey number 28.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur FC won the League Winners Shield trophy after winning 13 out of 20 league stage matches. This was the first time when they clinched the trophy and they also achieved the highest points in the history of league stage of Hero ISL – 43.
