Defender Ricky Lallawmawma has signed a contract extension with Jamshedpur FC ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the club announced on social media on Sunday. The defender had played a key role in helping the club in winning the League Winners Shield after they had finished the league stage at the numero uno position.
Jamshedpur FC had managed 15 clean sheets in the previous season of the tournament and had played a key role in the team’s defense. The club had finished with 43 points in the previous season in the league stage, which is the highest in the history of the tournament.
Ricky has managed 130 tackles, 63 interceptions, 84 clearances, and 75 blocks in the last two seasons of the Hero ISL and had impressed one and all.
The 30-year-old is delighted to extend his stint with the club and shared his joy after signing the new deal.
He said, “It has been a dream journey with Jamshedpur, and I am extremely excited to continue representing the vociferous Red Miners. We have grown and together achieved massive success in the last two seasons. But we will not be here just to defend the Champions of India title but also to win trophies this time in front of the fans as we play at a packed JRD Tata Sports Complex.”
Meanwhile, Lallawmawma played all the 42 matches in the last two seasons for the club, which goes to show his fitness.
Jamshedpur FC head coach Aidy Boothroyd is delighted to extend the defender’s contract.
He said after the contract extension, “Ricky has always been a team player and a wall for Jamshedpur. Along with the other defenders he has done a fantastic job at the back and everyone has noticed his amazing contributions in the last two seasons.”
Ricky is also excited to work under the tutelage of the new head coach. He said, “I am looking forward to working with the Gaffer. He is the right person to lead the squad to more glory. His experience and style will show the results this season and will also wow the fans at the Furnace.”
