FC Goa’s attacking midfielder Iker Guarrotxena believes the team needs to learn fast after their loss against Mumbai City FC in their previous match. Iker Guarrotxena had scored the consolation goal for the Gaurs in the last game but they suffered a big loss of 4-1 against the Islanders.
The Spaniard feels the team needs to move on from the defeat and focus on their preparation for the next game. In fact, FC Goa hasn’t been at its best in the recent past, managing only one win in the last four matches and losing three games.
FC Goa is currently in sixth place in the standings with four wins and as many losses with a total of 12 points.
While speaking to the official website of Hero ISL, Iker Guarrotxena said, “Yes, we can’t be happy because we weren’t ourselves. We put in the work during the week. We had good energy before the game against Mumbai City FC and we expected more. But sometimes it happens, we need to learn fast and you will see a big change before the next game.”
When asked if the team lacked creativity in the last game against Mumbai City FC, the 30-year-old said they need to analyze their loss and move forward.
The Spaniard said, “There are a lot of things to analyze. Now is not the moment to complain. It’s time to put these feelings aside (after a defeat). This defeat hurt us a lot. Each one of us needs to analyze ourselves and we need to learn fast and immediately because we will have a good challenge in the next game as well. We need to learn, improve, and ensure those mistakes don’t happen again.”
Iker Guarrotxena also shared his experience of playing in front of the home crowd as he said, “It’s unbelievable. Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of atmosphere here in India. I am so happy and excited to play the next game already as we have a beautiful atmosphere at home. This is an amazing group and we can change our situation.”
Summing up FC Goa’s mixed season so far, the midfielder revealed Carlos Pena knows what needs to be done.
He concluded, “The coach knows how to change this situation. It’s not a big challenge because any team can lose two games in a row. We have a beautiful challenge in the next game and Carlos (Pena) is the guy who can manage this best. We will be playing in Goa and we are all together. No complaints right now, we have to work and compete well.”
FC Goa will next take on Odisha FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on 10th December.
