Indian forward Lalremsiami leading the Indian Junior Women’s team for the upcoming Junior World Cup in South Africa

 

Indian women’s Hockey team forward Lalremsiami is currently looking forward to leading the Indian Junior Women’s team at the Junior World Cup in South Africa. The 21-year-old Mizo forward who has been an integral part of the Indian senior team will look to use her experience and learning among the junior girls.

The 21-year-old forward has already made a staggering 72 international appearances for the Indian Women’s hockey team and has highlighted the responsibility that comes with the Olympics where they finished fourth.

“I feel really lucky to have got the chance of experiencing the Olympics pressure. Most importantly, I got to learn how to deal with that kind of pressure, and it taught us to be brave. It’s a great opportunity for me to be a part of the core probables for the junior world cup, and I am looking forward to using my experience and learnings from the time spent in the senior set-up,” she said.

However, she highlights that her role at the junior setup will be different as girls will look up to her. She understands that it will be about taking up roles and making important contributions to the team.

Lalremsiami was a part of the silver medal-winning team at the 2018 Youth Olympics which was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Mizo forward was pivotal in her role in the junior team during the Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualifiers. There she scored seven goals to help India progress forward and finish in the second position. Lalremsiami’s current focus is to gain a podium place with the Indian Junior Women’s team at the Junior Women’s World Cup in South Africa.

“Our aim is to finish on the podium at the World Cup, and I believe we are capable of doing it. We have been in good touch in our training, it’s a good atmosphere, and we are trying to improve our game each and every day,” said Lalremsiami.

The 21-year-old lastly highlights how training and playing with the senior women’s team have motivated the young girls. They are highly impressed with their seniors’ performances at the Tokyo Olympics and looking to put up a great performance at the upcoming World Cup.
