Dingko Singh to be transferred from Imphal to Delhi for treatment

Olympic gold medalist Dingko Singh will be airlifted down to New Delhi from Imphal by the Boxing Federation of India on the 25th of April to continue his treatment for liver cancer.

The boxer had no option but to miss his radiation therapy session which has been earlier scheduled due to the pandemic spread lockdown

The Pugilist who currently stays at Imphal was initially scheduled for a radiation therapy four weeks ago but failed to make it to Delhi following the lockdown.

The Executive Director for the Boxing Federation of India [BFI] R.K Sacheti revealed that contact had been made with the  41-year old and due arrangements made for him to be conveyed down via an ambulance to process with his radiation therapy.

However, the Minister for sports in India Kiren Rijiju has earlier made a request that the Manipur authorities monitor the boxer’s condition and make all possible efforts to assist his treatment at a near medical facility.

Dingko Singh, who has also bagged the honorary award of the Arjuna and Padma Shri, has been fighting a relapse of Liver cancer. The ailing pugilist also boasts of a gold medal in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Sacheti added that his condition is stable must still need to undergo radiation therapy as it is very vital to stable his health permanently. ” so we thought it is best to bring him down here, this is because the doctor has been treating him for a while and knows his medical history.”
