Kochi Blue Spikers’ player Cody Caldwell lauded the collective effort of the team after his team registered their maiden win of the ongoing Prime Volleyball League 2022.
Kochi defeated Chennai by 3-2 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday by 12-15, 11-15, 15-14, 15-12, 10-15.
This was an important win for Kochi Blue Spikers as they had lost their opening two matches and this must have given them a lot of confidence.
Caldwell said after the win, “It feels incredible to get the win. We worked on our offensive game before our match against Chennai. We also worked on playing together as a team and that helped us come through in the big moments. We were focused on doing whatever it took to make our team successful and that really helped bring us together to play as a team last night.”
Cody Caldwell for awarded the Player of the Match for his fine performance. Caldwell scored 12 points for his team. “I was super happy to win the Player of the Match. I am willing to do anything to help the team. I had a good night, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the setters. It was a full team effort. It was a great night for all of us and I really enjoyed it.”
Speaking about his experience of playing in the Prime Volleyball League, the American said it has been really cool for him so far.
“It’s been really cool to play in this tournament. There are lights everywhere in the stadium and it’s a really cool atmosphere during matches. The players love the game and they play with so much energy, the energy just feeds off.”
Caldwell also heaped praise on Indian players and feels they have a lot of talent to go a long way in their career.
“We have a super talented team. Our Captain and Middle Blocker Karthik is incredible. He’s doing a great job as a leader and also scoring a lot of points. Erin Varghese played incredibly last night. It’s been really fun to play with a bunch of incredible athletes in our team.”
