The world number two Rafael Nadal had no issues in booking his semi finals berth in the ongoing French Open 2020. Nadal defeated Jannik Sinner by 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-1 in straight sets. In fact, the undisputed king of clay is yet to drop a set in the ongoing tournament. Nadal was playing his 100th match at the Roland Garros and recorded his 98th win in Paris.
Meanwhile, this is the 13th time when Nadal has made it to the semifinals of the French Open. On the other hand, Diego Schwartzman stunned the US Open 2020 champion Dominic Thiem in a marathon five-setter match by 7-6, 5-7, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. Thiem has been a runners-up of French Open in the last two editions.
Nadal is now wary of the challenge he would face in the semifinals. Furthermore, Schwartzman had got the better of Nadal in the Italian Open last month as he had defeated him in straight sets. Thus, the Argentine will take his confidence into the all important match. However, Nadal leads the head to head battle by 9-1.
Nadal stated that he will try to play aggressively against the Argentine and he is going to give his best on the court.
“Of course, it is a challenge. When you lose to somebody, it’s because he’s playing well. Today he played an amazing match against one of the best players of the world, without a doubt, especially on this surface,” said Nadal.
“I’m going to try to go on court, play my best, try to play my game, play aggressive, try to do something a little bit different than what I did in Rome, of course. Hope to be ready to play my best. That’s what I need. I am going to give my best until the end,” added Nadal.
Nadal is aiming for his 13th title at the Roland Garros and Schwartzman has shown the skills to upset the Spaniard. The semi final between Nadal and Schwartzman will be played on 9th October.
