Rafael Nadal wants to enjoy every day before he calls time on his glorious career. Nadal is a 14-time champion at French Open and he will take part at Roland Garros for one final time. The veteran Spaniard has a 112-3 record at French Open and he will look to go out on a high.
Nadal has been gearing up for Roland Garros as he is practicing in Paris. The leftie recently made it to the fourth round of the Madrid Open but lost in the second round of the Italian Open to Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.
“I am not negative,” Nadal explained. “I am just realistic.
“I cannot predict what kind of emotions I am going to have there,” said Nadal, who has indicated that 2024 will likely be his final season before retirement. “I just want to enjoy every day.”
Nadal is ready to give his best at Roland Garros despite injury woes in the last 18 months.
“Physically I have some issues, but not probably yet enough to say I’m not playing in the most important event of my tennis career,” said Nadal.
“If I feel ready, I’m going to try to fight for the things I have been fighting for the last 15 years, (even) if now seems impossible.”
Nadal last won the Roland Garros back in 2022 when he defeated Casper Ruud in the summit clash in straight sets. The Spaniard understands that his fans will be emotional seeing him for one last time at his favorite tournament.
“Probably when the people start to see that there will not be many chances to watch me play again, probably they feel a bit more emotional, more sad because it’s in some way the end of an important era in the history of tennis,” Nadal said.
French Open main draw matches will begin from May 26.
