Former World no.1 Roger Federer has had a difficult last couple of years. After losing in the semifinal of the Australian Open in 2020 against Novak Djokovic, Federer had to undergo two knee surgeries and then made a return to Qatar Open in 2021 after almost 13 months.
The Swiss Maestro then made it to the fourth round in Roland Garros but decided to pull out in order to prepare well for the grass season. The legendary player then lost in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets and then decided to pull out Tokyo Olympics.
Federer had to withdraw from the rest of the season, including US Open as he revealed he will need to undergo one more knee surgery to be fully fit. The 40-year old has now provided an update on his knee injury and stated his rehab process is going well and there are no setbacks. Thus, Federer is on the right road to recovery.
“I am recovering well, rehab is going really good I must say, I’ve had no setbacks every day is a better day. I’m feeling strong and excited for what is to come. I experienced it last year and I was surprised how easy for me to go through the rehab process because I know it’s not the easiest thing to do.” Federer said.
Federer added that he won’t be rushing back from his third surgery and he will take one step at a time to recuperate fully for the next season.
“I wish I could be back on a tennis court as quick as possible, but I have to be patient and it’s a slower period right now. I’ve got to take it step-by-step, so far, so good, I am very happy,” he added.
Federer will look to take his time before picking up the racquet again and he will aim to bounce back stronger in the next season.
