Russia’s Tennis sensation Andrey Rublev feels Roger Federer’s Wimbledon quarterfinal run was unreal and unbelievable. Federer had decided to pull out of his Round four French Open match against Matteo Berrettini to be ready for the Grass season. However, the legendary player lost in the second round against Canada’s youngster Felix Auger Aliassime in the Halle Open.
Thus, considering Federer’s injury woes and current form, not many expected him to last longer in Wimbledon. However, Federer was being Federer as he stunned one and all with his performance and reached the quarter final of the elite competition. But his journey was ended when he lost to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.
There have been a lot of doubts on Federer’s future and it would be interesting to note whether he will return to Wimbledon next year. Federer has recently turned 40 and had pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics to give himself more time to be ready for the US Open.
“I’m sure I’m not going to be the first one to say this, but [Roger Federer’s Wimbledon QF run] was something unreal, something unbelievable. He’s the only one who could make it,” said Rublev.
“By the way, I’m not really surprised because this is Roger, he breaks so many records. “He is one of the best tennis players in history. And that’s what he’s doing and achieving- it’s just unreal.”
Federer has proved that age is just a number and he has often stated he is going to keep playing as long as he is enjoying the game. The former World No.1 feels there is still some fuel left in his tank.
Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev lost in the Round of 16 of Canadian Open against John Isner by 7-5, 7-6.
