Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic has said that his compatriot Novak Djokovic wants to win the Olympic medal. Djokovic has won 24 Slams in his glorious career but an Olympic medal is still missing in his glittering cabinet.
The Serbian won three Majors in 2023 but he is yet to win a single title in the ongoing season. The veteran lost in the semifinal of the Australian Open against Jannik Sinner and then pulled out of the Roland Garros due to an injury after reaching the quarterfinals.
Djokovic has reached London for Wimbledon but there are still doubts about championships’ participation.
“Yes, I mean, everybody knows that he wants to win. An Olympic gold is the only thing he hasn’t win yet. I think he’s very hungry to take it this year. And as I said before, if he’s fit and healthy, he will be the top favorite,” Hamad said in an interview with Clay.
Hamad added that his countryman is a great role model for everyone on and off the court as he has been consistently delivering at the top stage
“Let’s just say he’s the great role model for everybody on and off the court. I think so many people can learn from him, not only about tennis, but how he is as a person. I know he’s pretty close to his loved ones and he’s just an amazing guy,” he said.
“You can learn a lot from and I think that’s the biggest thing you can have as a human being. Being so humble and being so friendly to everyone, even though you’re the greatest sports player ever. I think seeing him being so humble and down to earth is just amazing,” he added.
The Olympic tennis tournament runs from July 27 to Aug. 4 whereas Wimbledon will begin on July 1.
