Australia’s showman Nick Kyrgios is looking forward to playing in the inaugural edition of the World Tennis League in Dubai. It is the last exhibition tournament of the year and Kyrgios has his eye set on the match against Novak Djokovic and his team – the Falcons.
Kyrgios will take on Novak Djokovic on Wednesday at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai and the Australian wants to bring his best against the Serbian.
Both of these players had met in the 2022 Wimbledon final, which Djokovic had won in four sets and Kyrgios will be seeking his revenge. In fact, Djokovic and Kyrgios had nice things to say about one another after the game. Kyrgios holds a 2-1 advantage against Djokovic in the head-to-head battle.
“The team that has my eye is definitely Novak and the Falcons,” Kyrgios said as quoted by World Wide of Sports.
“I can’t wait to come up against them and I can guarantee an Eagles win. I thrive and have so much fun in a team environment. An event like this for the fans is so important.
“We have fan interactions, the ability to see female and male athletes come together and achieve something, is really really cool.”
Kyrgios is known to excel in the doubles and he will look to lead the Eagles from the front. The flamboyant player will have Caroline Garcia, Bianca Andreescu, Rohan Bopanna, and Andreas Seppi as his other four teammates.
After the completion of the World Tennis League, the 27-year-old will play in the inaugural United Cup in Australia between December 29 and January 8. As per reports, Kyrgios could partner with former girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic.
“I don’t play so much mixed doubles anymore but what I love about mixed doubles is it’s for the fans,” Kyrgios said.
“That’s the most important thing. Seeing some of the best females in the world playing with the best males, it definitely provides some really good entertainment, how the male kind of lets the female do her thing on the court and not get in the way. That’s fun to watch.”
