India wrapped up a dominant 4-1 T20I series victory against England, with an aggressive, high-risk playing style that head coach Gautam Gambhir has firmly backed. The series concluded on Sunday with a resounding 150-run win at Wankhede Stadium, powered by Abhishek Sharma’s blistering century.

Abhishek’s 135 off just 54 balls was the second-fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter, propelling the team to a massive total of 247—India’s fourth-highest in T20Is. The knock exemplified the fearless batting approach Gambhir has been instilling in his squad.

Speaking after the series win, Gambhir emphasized that India’s T20 strategy is built on selflessness and an unwavering commitment to attack, even at the risk of occasional collapses.

“That’s the kind of T20 cricket we want to play. We don’t want to fear losing a game of cricket. We want to play high-risk, high-reward cricket,” Gambhir stated.

The head coach acknowledged that this aggressive mindset could lead to instances where the team is bowled out cheaply, but he believes the long-term benefits outweigh the risks.

“These guys have adopted that ideology really well. We want to try and get to 250-260 regularly. In trying to do that, there’ll be games where we’ll get bundled out for 120-130,” he added.

Gambhir is determined to maintain this approach heading into major tournaments, ensuring India remains fearless in their pursuit of high scores.

“Unless and until you don’t play that high-risk cricket, you won’t get those big rewards as well. Come those big tournaments, we want to still continue playing this way and we don’t want to fear losing anything.”

With the T20I series now concluded, India shifts focus to the three-match ODI series against England starting on February 6. Following that, they will begin their Champions Trophy campaign with a Group A clash against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20.
