Boston Celtics has revealed that center Kristaps Porzingis has a rare leg injury and he is doubtful for the third game of the NBA finals against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. Porzingis has been brilliant for the Celtics in the first two matches of the series after returning from a calf strain injury.
Meanwhile, Porzingis had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in 23 minutes while coming off the bench in the second game. But the talisman tweaked his right leg in the team’s 105-98 win on Sunday.
“It’s kind of a random situation,” Porzingis said Tuesday. “I felt something, and now I have to deal with it.
“As we said, yeah, it’s going to be day-to-day, and I’ll see how I am tomorrow, and obviously I’m going to do everything I can to be out there tomorrow, and we’ll see.”
“I don’t care,” Porzingis said, when asked whether his injuries in these playoffs are weighing on his mind. “I’ve been through some stuff in my career, and obviously this is a rough patch coming back and having something happen right away again. It’s tough … just a tough moment right now.
“But I’m feeling pretty good. I’m feeling pretty good. Mind is good. We’ll see tomorrow.”
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said Porzingis is doing everything to make himself ready for the crucial match against the Mavericks.
“Yeah, I mean, listen, he’s doing anything and everything he can to be ready for the game tomorrow,” Mazzulla said. “It’s a serious injury. At the end of the day, our team and the medical team is not going to put him in any bad situations.
“We’ve taken the decision to play out of his hands. … He’s going to do everything he can to play. We’re going to leave it up to our medical team. That’s really it.”
The third game of the series will be played on Wednesday.
