Jamshedpur FC full-back Ashutosh Mehta has given credit to head coach Khalid Jamil for playing an instrumental role in helping him achieve success. Mehta said Jamil is always dedicated to the team and helps motivate all the players.
Jamshedpur FC has won four matches whereas they have suffered three losses in seven games of the ongoing ISL and Jamil has played a key role in the team’s success. Mehta, on the other hand, has been featured in all seven ISL games.
The 33-year-old from Surat said the collective effort plays a key role in the team’s success and they all try to work as a unit.
“The best player of the team, the most skilful player, the most tactically smart player—that player is the team itself,” Mehta told KhelNow.
“Sometimes, it’s more important to have a good team than just a good squad. As long as we stay united and play as a team, we can achieve great things,” he added.
Speaking on Khalid Jamil’s contribution, Mehta said, “The best part about Khalid Sir is there’s so much to learn from him. He has had a big impact on my life both on and off the pitch. His work ethic, preparation, attention to detail—he’s relentlessly committed to constantly improving and evolving.”
“Khalid Sir is 100% professional. Even off the pitch, he’s incredibly dedicated. He wakes up early and does all those video sessions, analyzing the team and players. He’s so deeply invested in football; it’s inspiring to see someone so committed,” he continued.
Mehta wants to give his best on the pitch and showered praise on India’s head coach Manolo Marquez.
“The result isn’t in my hands. What’s in my control is the effort I put in, the sweat I pour out in training, and my commitment to proving myself every day. Coach Manolo Marquez is a top coach and a great person. He understands Indian football and the players deeply.”
“I feel that, having come this far, it’s essential to believe in myself. Belief and constant self-improvement are what matter most,” he concluded.
Jamshedpur FC will take on Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata on Saturday.
