Former Pakistan World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan has slammed the team after their embarrassing 10-wicket loss against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi. Khan noted that Pakistan had beaten India by 10 wickets in the 2021 World Cup but they have veered off the track.
Pakistan was also knocked out of the group stages after they were stunned by the USA in the T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Pakistan decided to declare after scoring 448-6 on a flat track in Rawalpindi.
The Tigers took a convincing lead of 117 runs after they added 565 runs on the board, courtesy of a magnum opus knock of 191 runs from veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim.
Speaking to reporters from Adiala Jail, Imran Khan said as quoted by X account, “For the first time, we (Pakistan) didn’t make it to the top four in the World Cup or the top eight in T20. And yesterday, we faced an embarrassing defeat against Bangladesh, setting a new low. Just two-and-a-half years ago, this team had defeated India by 10 wickets. What has happened in these two-and-a-half years that we lost to Bangladesh by 10 wickets? The blame for all of this collapse falls on one institution.”
“Cricket is the only sport the entire nation watches with great interest on TV, but even that has been destroyed by powerful quarters who brought in an unqualified, favoured official to maintain their control.”
This was Bangladesh’s first Test victory against Pakistan and it must have given them a lot of confidence. Pakistan was bundled out for a paltry score of 146 runs in the second innings and it led to their downfall.
The second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played at Rawalpindi from Friday onwards.
