Former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja showered praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock in the first innings of the second Test match against Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur on Monday. Jaiswal was able to get off the blocks in a jiffy, smashing Hasan Mahmud for three fours in the opening over after Bangladesh were skittled out for 233.
The left-hander scored a fine knock of 72 runs off just 51 balls with the help of a dozen fours and two sixes. Jaiswal added 55 runs with skipper Rohit Sharma and then put on a 72-run alliance with Shubman Gill for the second wicket.
“We have almost gotten used to seeing this from him (Jaiswal) because he does this daily. What Rohit Sharma did was incredible, there sixes, but he has dominated since he has come, whether it was against England or here. The entire team saw his positivity today,” Ajay Jadeja said on Colors Cineplex.
“His specialty was that he played with the opposition captain today. Rishabh Pant moves fielders by speaking, he did that with his bat, especially the deep point fielder. When he was placed square, he used to hit straight. So he played with the entire field today. That was the essence of this knock,” the former India captain added.
On the other hand, former Indian pacer RP Singh picked Jaiswal as the standout performer for India on the penultimate day of the Test match.
“Everyone contributed and that is why the Indian team is standing in this situation. If I have to pick one, I will pick Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting. The entire team showed intent in batting, especially Jaiswal, because you had to see the explosive power in batting to be in this situation,” he responded.
“We believed that if the Indian team bats extremely well, they might play at five-and-a-half to six runs per over, but they started with the double of that. They started with 12. You rarely come after deciding that you will take everyone on remand and they hit all bowlers decently. Since you asked for one name, I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal had the biggest impact as a batter in this match,” RP Singh elaborated.
Bangladesh were 26-2 at draw of stumps on day four and India will look to wrap up the visitors’ innings as soon as possible on the final day.
