Former Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh stated that Rohit Sharma reminded him of ex-Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq. Singh, who shares a great bonhomie with Rohit Sharma, believes that the Mumbai batsman had a lot in common with Inzamam when he initially came into the Indian team.
Yuvraj added that Rohit Sharma had a lot of time up his sleeve while facing the fast bowlers. Rohit is a pure timer of the ball and he had all the talent under his belt when he came into the International level. In fact, Rohit could not savour success in the initial phase of his career. The talisman made his debut back in 2007 but he was criticized for playing uncharacteristic shots at the crucial stages of the match.
Rohit will get off to a good start but he will throw away his wicket at a crucial juncture. Thus, he was not able to convert his start into substantial scores and could not take his team over the finishing line. However, Rohit was able to turn the tables in the 2013 Champions Trophy when former captain MS Dhoni asked him to open the innings.
Since then, Rohit Sharma has been a consistent performer for the team, especially in the white ball format.
“I think when he came into the Indian team, he looked like somebody who had a lot of time. He reminded me of Inzamam-ul-Haq, because, when he batted, Inzi had a lot of time (to play the bowlers),” Yuvraj Singh said while talking to Gaurav Kapur on his new chat show Isolation Premier League on YouTube
Rohit Sharma has scored 9115 runs in the 224 One Day matches he has played at an average of 49.27. The right-hander has been instrumental in the success of the team over the years.
On the other hand, Rohit has scored 2773 runs in the T20I format in 108 matches and he is the second highest run-getter in the shortest format. Rohit is the solitary International batsman who has scored three double centuries in the 50-overs version whereas he has scored four hundreds in the T20I format.
