Rohit Sharma will be successful in England as well – Deep Dasgupta

Former Indian wicket-keeper and now a commentator Deep Dasgupta believes Rohit Sharma will also be successful in the arduous English conditions.

Rohit had a great series against England as he scored 345 runs in seven innings to finish as the second-highest run-getter in the series.

Rohit scored his runs at an impressive average of 57.50. The talisman’s best knock of the series came in the second Test match at Chepauk when he scored a fine inning of 161 runs. Rohit’s brilliant hundred helped India in posting a par score of 329 runs in the first innings. It was a difficult pitch at Chepauk and Rohit’s knock was the difference between the two sides after India had lost the first Test by 227 runs.

Moreover, Rohit played a key knock of 66 runs in the third Test match at Ahmedabad and it helped the team in posting 145 runs and getting a lead of 33 runs in the first innings.

On the other hand, Rohit also had a decent tour of Australia as he was getting off to starts but had failed to get a big score under his belt. Meanwhile, Rohit had a magnificent World Cup in England in 2019 as he top-scored in the tournament with 648 runs.

The flamboyant batsman had scored a total of five centuries, which is the most in a single edition of the World Cup. Thus, Rohit had shown that he has the skills to succeed in the English conditions as an opener. However, there is no doubt that Rohit will have his work cut out in the red-ball version of the game.

Deep Dasgupta backed Rohit Sharma to find success in the tough English conditions as he has the experience and skills under his belt.

“Why not? I do understand his numbers and records are not that great outside India but he has it in him. Because conditions in England are more alien to Indian batsmen so obviously there will be challenges there. But Rohit with all the experience and talent he has, he should. I’ll back him to be successful that’s for sure. I know we go by numbers at times but I personally get a feeling that he’s in a very good mental space right now, he has all the experience in the world and also the talent. It just that, it needs to click,” said Deep Dasgupta while talking to Sports Today.

India will tour England for five-match Test series and the first Test will be played from August 4 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
