WI vs IND 2022: We didn’t learn from our mistakes – Nicholas Pooran

West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran rued the fact that they didn’t learn from their mistakes and they weren’t good enough throughout the series against India. The hosts lost the series by 4-1 after losing the fifth T20I by a mammoth margin of 88 runs.

The West Indies were competitive in the first two ODIs against India and those two matches went down to the wire. But the home team could not replicate the same performance in the T20I series and except for the second match, they were comprehensively beaten in the shortest format of the game.

West Indies were skittled out for a paltry score of 100 runs and lost by a huge margin. Except for Shimron Hetmyer, who scored 56 runs, none of the West Indies batters could get going in the run-chase of 189 runs.

Thus, it was a disappointing batting performance from the home team. They were able to get off to starts in the series but could not convert them into substantial scores.

In fact, right throughout the series the West Indies batters could not come up with a collective effort. Furthermore, apart from Akeal Hosein and Obed McCoy, their bowlers also could not deliver the goods for the team.

Nicholas Pooran was disappointed with his team’s performance and reckons they will need to come up with a collective effort in the upcoming matches.

Pooran said in the post-match presentation, “We were just not good enough. We didn’t learn from our mistakes. We just weren’t up to the challenge, just didn’t put enough partnerships. To come up against tough teams, we need to be good in execution. Be it in the batting group or bowling group, we have a lot of catching up to do. I just hope that we as a team learn from these losses. We’re building towards the World Cup and hopefully, we can do that right. (On Holder opening the batting) Obviously, King and Mayers didn’t play today, so we needed someone to open. Just thought of giving him an opportunity to bat higher up. We all know what he can do down the order. It (playing two spinners) is something we have to think about in the future. India has shown why they are better than us in this series.”

There is no doubt that the West Indies have a lot of potential, especially in the T20I format but they need to execute their skills. They need to come up with consistent performances and they will be looking to turn the tables in the upcoming matches.
