After last season’s hiccup in the Indian Super League, FC Goa management are hell bent to get it right this season and hence they have made the big moves in the summer transfer window. They have appointed a new head coach in Carlos Pena who has been a player for them and understands the value of the club like no other. After that they have made some head turning signings and now finally they have roped in former Indian defender Gouramangi Singh as Pena’s Indian assistant coach. The Gaurs have officially announced the arrival of the former India international who will work hand in hand with Pena at FC Goa from the upcoming season.
The former Indian centre back who is now actively into coaching was delighted with the opportunity as he feels that this is a step in the right direction for him to join FC Goa. After putting pen to paper, Gouramangi Singh was delighted as he said, “I’m delighted to join FC Goa. Knowing the Club and the quality of their game, it’s a big step in the right direction as far as my coaching career is concerned. Goa is like a second home to me, having played in the state for several years. It feels really good to be back.”
FC Goa’s Director of football Ravi Puskur also shared how Gouramangi’s vast knowledge of Indian football will only enrich their coaching setup as he also believes that the players will also benefit from this signing as he will add value to the backroom staff. “The Head Coach and I spoke to him in detail and we felt he’d be a good cultural and coaching fit to the team. His vast experience in Indian football in various roles will be a significant asset to the Head Coach’s backroom staff and I’m sure with his addition, the players in the squad will also benefit from his presence and playing experience,” Puskur opened up about the signing of the former India defender.
After coming out of the famous TATA Football Academy, Gouramangi played for some of India’s top football clubs in his 15-year long illustrious career. He was one of India’s most reliable defenders and is also one of India’s most decorated players having won several trophies.
Starting from the National Football League trophy during his time at Dempo to repeating that feat with Mahindra United. He also won the Federation Cup with both the clubs. He then moved on to Churchill brothers and won the I-League title and several other titles in a sensational spree for the Red Machines who dominated the Indian football scene during that time.
He was sensational for the Blue Tigers as well as he played over 70 matches for the national team and have won several Nehru Cups and the historic AFC Challenge Cup and a few SAFF Cups as well. He is surely one of the most consistent defenders in Indian football.
However, turning to coaching, Gourmangi is a AIFFA License holder and has been assistant coach at Bengaluru United for the past three seasons and was a integral part of their success in recent times. Therefore his good work was rewarded by FC Goa as they roped him up as their new assistant coach.
